$60,000 more in pledges, takes us over $250,000 raised to date!
January 17, 2018
Many thanks to the Golf Club for their very generous pledge of $10,000 and more recently Apollo Bay P-12 College who have just pledged $50,000!
This community is really amazing. Contributions over the past few years have been rolling in as either pledges or donations from some 200 individuals, 25 not for profit local organisations, 12 local businesses, not to mention the 15 full donation tins located in the local shops and the hundred plus members who each year since 2011 pay their membership to support lobbying for our pool.
A BIG THANK YOU to everyone!
Before Xmas, we applied for matched Federal funding under the Building Better Regions Fund. We must now wait until June for the outcome of our application so that we can proceed with the heating and hopefully the construction, if we are successful.
It is still imperative that the Council commits to the ongoing running costs of the pool. In 2013, Council resolved to provide in-principle commitment to the ongoing operational costs of an indoor aquatic facility in Apollo Bay, subject to external funds being sourced for the capital construction of the facility. In addition, the support for the Apollo Bay community’s advocacy for the development of an indoor heated pool is a key action in the Council Plan 2017-2021.
There must be an allocation in the forthcoming budget for the pool’s running costs for us to proceed.
So please, continue to lobby Councillors to ensure the forthcoming budget includes the pool running costs. The draft budget will be put to the vote at the April Council meeting. Fingers crossed that Council will provide the deserved support for our amazing community.
